Russia’s largest dairy holding EkoNiva Group has announced the start of winter sowing for Crop 2027. The work has commenced in several of the Group’s subdivisions.

Winter sowing at EkoNiva traditionally started with rapeseed. In early August, the growers of Severnaya Niva Bashkiriya, part of the Group’s Volga subdivision, set to work. Since then, the operations have spread to EkoNiva’s farms in Kaluga, Ryazan and Moscow oblasts. In the meantime, winter wheat sowing is underway in Novosibirsk oblast and Tatarstan.

In the regions of its presence, the Group plans to allocate 70,500 ha of farmland for winter crops. Thereof winter wheat will occupy 58,500 ha, with more than 8,000 ha dedicated to annual grasses, 2,600 ha to rapeseed, over 800 ha to rye and about 500 ha to triticale.

‘The sowing began within the established agrotechnical timelines. Favourable conditions in all the regions have enabled us to proceed with the operations without disruption. Over the next week, most of the Group’s subdivisions will join the winter wheat sowing campaign, with other crops following as their respective planting windows open’, says Aleksandr Anpilov, Chief Agronomist of EkoNiva Group.

EkoNiva’s farms continue harvesting commercial crops and forages. Truckloads of wheat, triticale, rye, barley, oats, peas, soya beans, lentils and rapeseed are currently being brought in. At the same time, all the Group’s enterprises are engaged in the second cutting of forage grasses, while the Voronezh subdivision is already in its third cutting.
